I go bananas for beauty products...
My bathroom looks like the beauty closet at a magazine and actually I think deep down I would have made a good beauty editor. I love to try new things and almost never make it through the whole tube, tub, jar, or compact of anything. This is inline with my attention span and that rush of excitement you get when purchasing a new little product. It's a small bag right? And it doesn't really count when you look at it as just a little treat to start the weekend. You didn't go out and buy a whole new outfit now did you? However, my bank balance would disagree. A naughty little trip to the Tom Ford counter ends up no better or worse than a trip to NYX (my latest obsession) where you end up 6 products deep because everything is under ten dollars.
I don't discriminate and have applied my tried and tested high/low theory to not just fashion but to beauty too. Though my style motto is high/low/vintage, I don't doubt I have some yucky vintage cosmetics lurking in my drawer. I have continuously mixed Rimmel (and the newly admired TopShop) with luxury brands. Switching up the days to make products last just a little bit longer. Sort of like keeping your best face for the weekend like we do with clothing, pulling out the Nars and the Charlotte Tilbury for date night. Rimmel is brilliant as my in between, as are many other brands out there i.e the legendary L'Oreal Volumonous Mascara. My Rimmel go to's are Kate lipstick in Nude, the Wake Me Up (hangover) foundation, and black eye pencils. However your mix or remix will have infinite combinations, and that's the fun of it. What's your mix?
My luxe items come in the form or Tom, Charlotte, Bobbi, and Laura. They are my main squad. Having Make Up Artists as friends has also helped me put together a great arsenal of glam, and have helped curate a few amazing mainstays in my drawer. I'll cheer about my favs that's for sure but ultimately I am a beauty slag who likes to try various bits and am okay to flit across brands. There will be future posts about fragrance and skincare as that is a matrix of its own. So for right now I will continue on talking about mixing your TopShop with your Tom Ford.
In my opinion beauty regimes are personal so you can't really get them wrong, and also v v fun. Us girls and boys who love products also love trading secrets, discovering under the radar bits, and knowing all the top pharmacy picks, We have all read posts on what to buy from French pharmacies haven't we, and love a new trick right? So the mix of high and low can be whatever you want it to be. Splurge on foundation, and save on Mascara or save on eye shadows and go long on lipstick. I fully accept paying $70 for Tom Ford Wild Ginger lipstick. My absolute fav orange red, but I admit I almost teared up watching it come to an end and swapped the idea of a new dress with needing to go get the replacement. The same goes for my Tom Ford eyebrow pencil. It is a beauty of a pencil. It has an interior (not visible) sharpener that keeps the angle perfect at all times, as well as a brush on the other end. I take it everywhere as framing the eyes is very important as they are the window to the soul! I am not one for eye shadows so love this TopShop smoke stick, it is fab and at a fab price point for me to spend more on Lipsticks. It is very easy to use and gets the Kate perfect smudge next day look. Shown in the photo is also TopShop glow a creamy highlighter. I have various highlighters and this one bats with the big boys. Also great for holidays, as it is a nice size pot and if anything happens to it you wont cry.
The high low mix goes for fragrance too. I understand not everyone has a dozen fragrances but I have more everyday ones, avant grade ones, and save the more spend-y ones for special occasions or when I am feeling saucy. Essential oils are also a great way to prolong the life of designer fragrance, and experiment with layering different scents. Using scented oil is also great because they do not have harmful chemicals and can be used in the bath as well. They are multi-tasking products!
The high low mix is fun, clever, cool, and curated! What is your mix?
